The Cape County Commission extends sick leave for recovering sheriff’s deputy

At just 45-years-old Cape County deputy Ron Hobeck suffered a stroke while on-duty last January. He’s making progress everyday and still plans to rejoin the force in the near future. Friends and family have raised over 30-thousand-dollars to help with medical bills and lost wages. But he recently exhausted all of his sick leave, vacation time, and comp time, and doesn’t plan to file for disability. Cape County sheriff John Jordan met with commissioners this week to ask them to extend donated sick leave until February 2011. Jordan tells KZIM KSIM the sheriff’s department has gone above and beyond to make sure Ron has the time he needs to return to work. Jordan says they’re all excited to watch Ron make strides and are looking forward to the day he can return to his job. His neurologists say it takes about one full calendar year to get to that point.
